Since the first light in March 2025<\/a>, the PFS project has conducted three PFS observational runs for open-use programs during the S25A semester, thanks to collaborative efforts of a lot of members from both the PFS project and the Subaru telescope. The PFS science team has also launched a six-year, 360-night large survey program<\/a> (known as SSP, or Subaru Strategic Program). Sub-groups are currently engaged in the intensive analysis of the obtained spectra to refine the survey plans strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the middle of these activities, we had a virtual science meeting in the last week of August 2025. Because of the collaboration’s global nature, a single slot was not convenient for everyone. However, a lot of members, including those from East ASIA joining around midnight and from the US West Coast and Hawaii in the very early morning, participated in the meeting and contributed to active discussions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the time difference, the meeting was divided into four 2-hour sessions. The meeting began with overview of observation in the first semester, followed by reports of each science working group. In addition, status of the development of data reduction pipelines and the instruments were also shared. Subaru telescope also reported development of their tools and offered their feedback. A lot of members expressed their excitement about initial PFS spectra, but also engaged in discussions about outstanding issues and plans for the coming semesters to ensure the successful start of the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n
